Tips: Tretinoin Monograph. Topical Tretinoin is not recommended during pregnancy or in women of childbearing age without the proper use of an effective method of contraception. Exposure to topical tretinoin during pregnancy is associated with cases of temporally congenital abnormalities like rare birth defect category and holoprosencephaly. Likewise, although it is unknown if tretinoin is excreted in human milk, monograph recommends that a decision should be made whether to either discontinue nursing or taking the drug considering the benefits of both breastfeeding to the child and the drug to the mother.
